Country Thanksgiving!

It’s gonna be a Country Thanksgiving at our house! I love fall and decorating with those lovely orange and brown hues. I have added some updates to my Fall Table and Hutch Displays (scroll down for Thanksgiving Decor Ideas).

Growing up on a farm was pretty amazing. I always remember our Thanksgiving Dinners. There is nothing more special than gathering together for Thanksgiving. We would usually go to church on Sunday for Thanksgiving Service. The local country church where I grew up is a source of many fond memories from those days.

At then end of Harvest, we often got treated to a special meal in town, all you can eat!

But for Thanksgiving, the meal was always home cooked and usually included Turkey, and of course, Turkey Stuffing. I have carried this tradition on and posted my recipe card on my pages.

See the recipe card here: Country Turkey Stuffing.

If you have never cooked a Turkey before, I have detailed instructions under my Recipe page: Country Turkey Dinner.

The picture below is what the stuffing should look like just before stuffing the bird.

A part of this tradition is that I always add breakfast sausages to my Stuffing. The flavor is fantastic and second helpings are guaranteed!

In our family, we also like to have sweet potatoes, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, brussels, a green salad, carrots and some cranberry sauce. Throw in some pickles and fresh dinner rolls and you are set. If any of these are missing from the meal it seems strange! Even the creamed corn is a must. I am not sure where this tradition came from but Turkey Dinner isn’t the same without creamed corn!

It doesn’t all have to be homemade to be special. I usually buy my dinner rolls and cranberry sauce, creamed corn, but the rest is made from scratch.

To save time on the day, I boil my sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes in advance and mash them up, cover them and reheat just before the meal.

For the sweet potatoes, one of my own traditions is to add a wee bit of Sherry or Cognac (about a tablespoon full). This just gives it a little bit of richness/sweetness.

There are so many little touches you can add to your dinner table and your dinner to give it that extra touch. For decorations, a nicely set table is always appreciated. I recently found some cute Turkey salt and pepper shakers to decorate with this year. I am hoping we can have some family over, as last year was pretty quiet as we all know.

Here are my table decorations from a couple years ago. I love the tiger lilies and they add such a lovely punch of orange to the table.

This year, I am going to bring out the china for our Thanksgiving Dinner! My pattern is Autumn Roses, and I haven’t had it out for awhile. Pair that with some lovely flowers and it will be a wrap!

My Autumn/Harvest Display!

I finally got to working on my display for fall/harvest 🙂 Was so happy that I was able to find some miniature porcelain pumpkins on the marketplace, and then some orange placemats at the local thrift store! I also popped in to the local Vegetable Farm Market and bought a couple Gourds, to add to the display. This is my first fall/autumn display with my new farmhouse hutch!

As shown at the beginning of this post, I also created a table display with easy to find items and some of my own touches. I was pleasantly surprised to find some very inexpensive white and cream colored pumpkins at Walmart.

Another recent update for fall!

I actually have added a third version, because I love creating these displays. I also was out and about recently and found a white scale to add to my display, as well as a 2nd milk glass tall candy dish.

Simple Thanksgiving Table Tray for 2022

For this year’s Thanksgiving, I have created a simple table display with the farmhouse tray and some of the other items you saw above. I don’t want to over complicate the table as we will have lots of food on our plates and sometimes less is more.
