Exterior Painting on our Downsized House

We are literally waiting for the paint to dry! The exterior painting on our downsized house is almost complete. Our painters started 3 weeks ago, and due to weather, it has been a bit touch and go. But they are almost done! I am so looking forward to showing you the final result with the grey exterior paint and white trim! We have been waiting for 6 months to get this going and now we are almost finished with our exterior painting.

Update December, 2022: Here is the finished look after all the updates!

I am hesitant to show you all the before and after photos, since not everything is done yet. If you are really curious, go to my September post to see the before pictures. In this previous post, I also show the two exterior paint colors we chose as our final two options and then the final choice, Dover Gray.

But here is a sneak peak of the exterior with the paint done for the most part. I can’t believe the transformation already! This has got to be the best house exterior paint color yet!

Here was our vision board, if you recall from my earlier post. I took the original photo of the home and used one of those online paint apps to paint the house color. Then I took pictures of the window style we were ordering and overlayed those onto the main picture. Same for the garage door. It’s amazing how close it turned out!

The pictures below show where we are now.

Right side of front with 2nd smaller deck. We made sure the painters painted everything, including under the decks for complete consistency. Below they are still finishing off the deck area.

Back of house and patio area:

We are really enjoying the windows and glad that we changed all of them throughout the house. The new Craftsman windows and white trim really pop with this paint color. The Dover Gray paint makes the house look very classic and similar to Craftsman style. (See previous post for how we selected Dover Gray Paint).

As you can see, we still have a few things to finish with the painting.

As well, we still need the top section of our garage door replaced, the front steps painted, the 4 patio doors replaced.

Front door:

The original door color was, you guessed it, brown with brown trim. So we have ordered new hardware and painted it blue with the white trim. Here is the latest version with the blue paint. For the door color, see my previous post about our front door from the last house: Our Front Door Renovation.

I do like the rose glass on those side windows, but will keep that for another project, if possible. The side windows on the front door will also be replaced with 1 inch muntin bars to match the rest of the house.

This is all very exciting as we have been waiting for years to get to this stage, and finally work on the house that will be our downsized retirement sized home. We are getting close!!

Next Steps!

Our 4 patio doors will be replaced by mid-November. We chose a similar patio door to the windows, with a 1 inch internal muntin bar. We went with a different company only because of the locking mechanism was closer to what we wanted.

If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to leave a note below. Come back soon and see the final before and after pix!
