It’s that time of year when we get to bring out all those treasured and lovely decorations that bring many memories to mind and make us happy! My Christmas Red and White enamelware display is definitely one of those treasures that I will imagine when I close my eyes and think of Christmas.
I have been collecting a few new items for my enamelware display, finally combining and adding my vintage cannister set into the display with my newer items from this summer’s travels.
In late November, I went on a bit of a thrift store hunt for some vintage Christmas decorations, especially the wooden ones and some father Christmas figurines. Jackpot! I must have beaten the rush and got there ahead of everyone else 🙂 You will see a few of these old fashioned looking Santa / Father Christmas figurines. So cute!
In the above picture, you can see a red and cream colored tin match holder. It took me quite a while to find one of these. We used to have a tin matchbox holder on the wall in our sauna, on the farm. Recently I was looking through old photos and found a picture of the one we had. In this picture it is beside the kitchen stove, a wood burning oven, up on the wall! My grandma is cooking turkey in this photo. It’s so bizarre that I came across this old photo right about the time that I was buying this match holder.
One of the places I like to check is a Church Thrift store. They had these amazing sparkly red little Christmas trees, and then another place has some gold and green trees. Yay, they make the display look more like little Christmas vignettes within the whole display.
And these birds! I found 2 porcelain red cardinals and then a bag of feathered red cardinal decorations!
I also pulled out some of the vintage wooden decorations I found last year. I hope you like the little scenes I have going on. There’s a lot going on here!
My vintage red enamelware seems to be the perfect backdrop for all the activity with the birds singing, Santa delivering presents, carolers, snowmen, wooden soldiers, OMG! The fireplace is busy with more presents being delivered on the Christmas train!
All of the red vintage kitchenware and red and white vintage enamelware just makes me so happy. I can’t describe it. Vintage red and white is just classic and timeless.
Another very strange thing, was I found the following picture of my other grandma’s farmhouse. She had the same red cannister set that you can see on top of my hutch! I just bought mine last year, but OMG that spooked me!
I have to say this has been one of the funnest displays I have ever created! Every time I look over at it, I get a smile on my face. All of the reds are perfectly coordinated and are so cheerful.
It’s even snowing! Well it was. I am hoping to upload a video soon with the snowglobe snowing!
