Hi again! Here’s another post called Renovation Update Let There be Light! I will cover lighting among a few other updates on our exterior renovations.
For my next post, see September Renovation Updates (Roof, Gutters, Paint and Windows/Doors)!
Considering that we bought an older home (although not that old in real terms), we want the renovations to last for another 30 – 40 years (through our lifetime).
Exterior Plans
We have been crazy busy getting quotes for our roof, gutters, and windows. The home is circa 1986, so the roof is looking a bit tired! As well, some of the windows have started to fail.
I also wanted to transform it a bit with window changes and new paint on the outside. Our hope is to have all grey paint, with white trim, and a light grey roof with white gutters. Currently the exterior is Beige and Brown! So it all looks a bit drab!
We have been focused on finishing the upstairs inside painting and decorating, before we continue unpacking downstairs, where our 2 additional bedrooms and our storage area are, still loaded with boxes.
Here are a few of our latest photos from the living room refresh, refinished oak floors (see previous post), and paint, getting rid of those two red walls!
New Lighting – Dining Room Chandelier
We ordered a new chandelier and we are so happy with the outcome. The previous chandelier must not have been changed since the house was built and looked like this….yep, pretty bad…
Before:
Here is our new chandelier! What a difference it makes and the house looks newer right away!
After Renovation Update – Lighting:
If you like this chandelier, here are a couple of similar farmhouse chandeliers on Amazon. Some of these links may be affiliate links and I may earn a small commission off of the sale of these products, but the price you are charged is not affected.
Other updates: Oak Floor Refinishing
Here’s a couple more photos of the floor…we are so happy with our contractor who did the work! Amazing! (See more details on the flooring at New Home and Renovation.
All of the quotes for our Roof and Gutters are in…We are going with a 40 year laminate shingle and a 5 inch gutter, with the leaf guard added. This will add value and help keep the maintenance down on the roof and gutters.
For our windows, we are leaning towards Vinyl windows with a local company that has the best reputation and has been in business for more than 30 years. The warranty they provide looks great. The windows themselves will be craftsman style with double mintons on top…Can’t wait! We still have 2 more quotes to review and go to their showrooms. Lots to do!
More updates: August, 2021
Our roof is done!! The gutters are going to be done in the next week or so. I will post photos after that. We have selected our window vendor as well as a separate vendor for the patio doors (4)!
Lots of changes coming to the exterior. Stay tuned!
